ABSTRACT

To combat the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, many new ways have been proposed on how to automate the process of finding infected people, also called contact tracing. A special focus was put on preserving the privacy of users. Bluetooth Low Energy as base technology has the most promising properties, so this survey focuses on automated contact tracing techniques using Bluetooth Low Energy. We define multiple classes of methods and identify two major groups: systems that rely on a server for finding new infections and systems that distribute this process. Existing approaches are systematically classified regarding security and privacy criteria.Copyright © 2021 ACM.

ABSTRACT

Managing clinical education placements in physical therapy and physical therapy assistant programs continue to evolve to meet the needs of accredited programs (Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education [CAPTE], 2021b). The onset of COVID-19, the increased market demand, and the rise of more universities' program growth in physical therapy created a need for increased clinical placements. The 2:1 model has the potential to increase available placements. However, the implementation is slow due to resistance and obstacles. The 2:1 clinical model differs from the 1:1 model because it adds another student in the clinical experience for the clinical instructor;therefore, one clinical instructor mentors two students simultaneously. Research on the 2:1 model explored the viewpoints of clinical instructors, students, academia, and clinical site coordinators and lacked patient perspectives. This qualitative multiplecase study included an exploration of the patient's perspective of treatment satisfaction and efficiency of the 2:1 clinical education model. Reflexive thematic analysis, RA, was the method applied to the data obtained through semi-structured interviews. RA uses an inductive approach in qualitative studies for healthcare research without a predetermined set of codes or a codebook(Braun et al., 2021, 2014). Kotter's Change Management Model, KCMM, was the theoretical framework for this study. The first step is to create a sense of urgency, accomplished by the COVID-19 pandemic, market demand, and an increase in physical therapy and physical therapist university programs. This study focused on the second step, which is to create a guiding coalition of all the stakeholders. Obtaining patient perspectives was essential, as it was missing from previous research. Patients are the stakeholders who are usually the primary stakeholder for quality control in healthcare. The positive results of this study about satisfaction and effectiveness of the 2:1 model were from seven participants of diverse ages, locations, treatment settings, and diagnoses and supported 2:1 model in physical therapy and physical therapist assistant clinical education. By gaining insight from a primary stakeholder contributed to the gap in the literature and supported implementing a change initiative for the 2:1 model. ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic allowed for widespread implementation of telehealth as a delivery method for occupational therapy (OT) services. The purpose of this study was to investigate the perceptions of novice telehealth OT practitioners regarding telehealth as a delivery method for OT services. Quantitative data was collected through a modified version of the Telehealth Usability Questionnaire and analyzed via descriptive statistics. Qualitative data was collected by open-ended questions and analyzed via thematic analysis. OT practitioners' responses revealed four major themes: logistics of telehealth practice, role of client champions, capacity of the OT practitioner, and styles and approaches. The study revealed that OT sessions delivered via telehealth increased access to clients and continuity of services. Client champion engagement, effective coaching strategies, and practitioner flexibility supported the success of OT telehealth sessions. © 2023, University Library System, University of Pittsburgh. ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: Respectful maternity care is an approach that involves respecting women's belief, choices, emotions, and dignity during the childbirth process. As the workload among maternity care workforce affects intrapartum quality care, respectful maternity care might have also been affected, particularly during the pandemic. Thus, this study was conducted to examine the association between workload among healthcare providers and their practice of respectful maternity care, before and during the early phase of pandemic. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted in South Western Nepal. A total of 267 healthcare providers from 78 birthing centers were included. Data collection was done through telephone interviews. The exposure variable was workload among the healthcare providers, and the outcome variable was respectful maternity care practice before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Multilevel mixed-effect linear regression was used to examine the association. RESULTS: The median client-provider ratio before and during the pandemic was 21.7 and 13.0, respectively. The mean score of respectful maternity care practice was 44.5 (SD 3.8) before the pandemic, which was decreased to 43.6 (SD 4.5) during the pandemic. Client-provider ratio was negatively associated with respectful maternity care practice for both times; before (Coef. -5.16; 95% CI -8.41 to -1.91) and during (Coef. -7.47; 95% CI -12.72 to -2.23) the pandemic. CONCLUSIONS: While a higher client-provider was associated with a lower respectful maternity care practice score both before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, the coefficient was larger during the pandemic. Therefore, workload among the healthcare providers should be considered before the implementation of respectful maternity care, and more attention should be given during the pandemic.

ABSTRACT

Service providers from the informal sectors in the Philippines are left unemployed or want to look for part-time jobs due to the sudden COVID-19 pandemic. With the country on lockdown and as strict restrictions are implemented, people started adopting the e-commerce and m-commerce market. The rise in the Filipino masses using smartphones and participating in mobile commerce to purchase products and services over the Internet has given researchers a potential solution for the arising problem. Thus, the primary objective of the research is to design and develop a user-friendly mobile application that will give a platform where potential home service providers can offer their services to potential clients. HanAPP Buhay, a mobile application that is created in Android Studio with Java as a programming language, is a platform where service providers can offer a variety of home services including laundry, plumbing, cleaning, and electrical works to potential clients. As for the Application Programming Interface (API), Stripe and Firebase are the tools utilized for databases and transaction purposes. The researchers conducted a series of surveys and experiments and have determined that in the 38 trials, the HanAPP Buhay mobile application is functioning 100% accurately as expected, 99.995382330563% and 99.994941213182% working at real-time booking of appointments in the 16 trials for clients and 22 trials for workers respectively, have a reliable user's interface and secured data of both users through the Scrypt algorithm, and effective in its overall specifications in terms of customer's satisfaction. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

Federated learning is a machine learning method that can break the data island. Its inherent privacy-preserving property has an important role in training medical image models. However, federated learning requires frequent communication, which incur high communication costs. Moreover, the data is heterogeneous due to different users' preferences, which may degrade the performance of models. To address the problem of statistical heterogeneity, we propose FedUC, an algorithm to control the uploaded updates for federated learning, where a client scheduling method is made on the basis of weight divergence, update increment, and loss. We also balance the local data of the clients by image augmentation to mitigate the impact of the non-independently identically distribution. The server assigns compression thresholds to the clients based on the weight divergence and update increment of the models for gradient compression to reduce the wireless communication costs. Finally, based on the weight divergence, update increment and accuracy, the server dynamically assigns weights to the model parameters for the aggregation. Simulation and analysis utilizing a publicly available chest disease dataset containing COVID-19 are compared with existing federated learning methods. Experimental results show that our proposed strategy has better training performance in improving model accuracy and reducing wireless communication costs.

ABSTRACT

The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic forced care providers, including training clinics, to quickly shift mental health services to a remote modality to continue serving vulnerable populations. However, research on the effectiveness of psychotherapy delivered by novice clinicians using videoconferencing technology is limited. Therefore, the goal of this study was to examine the effectiveness of psychotherapy via videoconferencing technology, delivered by doctoral student trainees in a community training clinic. Participants (n = 34) were ethnically diverse, adult, outpatient psychotherapy clients from a large, urban setting, and the university community. Student clinicians (n = 11) were novice psychotherapy providers in their second or third year of training. Results indicated that client scores on inventories of overall distress Outcomes Questionnaire (OQ), center for epidemiological studies-depression (CES-D), and generalized anxiety disorder-7 (GAD-7) decreased significantly from baseline to the most recent readministration, and Working Alliance Inventory-Short Revised (WAI-SR) increased significantly. Collectively, by Session 16, symptom scores were in the typical range (below the clinical cutoff) for the OQ and GAD-7, and were one point above the CES-D clinical cutoff;by the 24th session, the average score on all measures was below the clinical cutoff, and WAI-SR scores approached the highest possible total score. Additionally, attendance during this time was quite high (87.6%) and was higher than rates during in-person service provision (80.7%). The results from this study suggest that novice clinicians can successfully use videoconferencing to deliver effective, evidence-based treatment in a community clinic, across a range of presenting concerns, and that such services can yield significant improvement of symptom distress and functioning, with patterns comparable to in-person services. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved) Impact Statement Training clinics are utilized by many underserved populations, students, and residents of the surrounding area. If student trainees are able to provide effective mental health care via telehealth, that would remove barriers for many clients that might not otherwise seek treatment. ABSTRACT

Healthcare systems around the world rely on powerful computational prediction tools in order to make accurate diagnostics with regard to the human body. In order to estimate the severity of lung damage post-COVID infection, healthcare providers rely on AI prediction tools to perform diagnosis. While such tools exist at a rudimentary level, there is a growing demand for more reliable and democratised systems that train models over a diverse data-set. To that end, the focus of this research paper turns to federated learning, a distributed machine learning paradigm. The system proposed consists of a central server that pools features and weights across various nodes, thereby cutting bias in the prediction models. This also achieves data decentralisation which ensures patient privacy. An end-to-end application is realised that facilitates distributed training of batch data that is visualised in real-time with the help of sockets. The application also features an inference service, classifying chest x-rays based on whether the image displays damage in case of Pneumonia. © 2023 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of and client satisfaction with teletheram;sen'ices provided during the COVID-19 pandemic. A 13-item electroitic survey was utilized to nied.sure participant use of and satisfaction with teletherapy. The frequency of symptoms assessed was coilsistently higher during the COVID-19 time frame than pre-COVID-19. Most respondents indicated that their symptoms worsened or new symptoms arose during the COVID-19 tinie Fame. Additionally, 39.6% of respondents indicated an increase in teletherapy use. A significant model was found that predicted a collective effect tor satisfaction with telethempy Coullseling. Reported increases in symptomology additionally indicated a greater need for accessible care during the pandemic. This study's findings support a continuation of teletherapy use in response to the COWD-19 pandemic due to reported increases in use of and satisfaction with teletherapy services. ABSTRACT

Professional services firms face evolving client needs and can better meet these needs through digital transformation. We offer the case of Clio, a leading provider of cloud-based legal technology for law firms to better serve their clients. With the onset of COVID-19, the company recognized that remote client access and services, previously embraced by early adopters, would now become essential for all law firms' survival. The company's response resulted in dramatic growth and the transition from a customer base of early adopters to customers spanning most of the innovation adoption curve. Clio's success throughout this period is attributable to three core elements of the company's strategy: (1) Deep, culturally-rooted commitment to customer success, (2) Research-based understanding of the needs of both law firms and their clients, and (3) Industry thought leadership and assistance. These elements generalize beyond Clio and the pandemic and will help guide any organization seeking to become not just a vendor but an essential partner to its customers. © 2022 IEEE Computer Society. ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic forced community corrections agencies worldwide to use remote technologies to prevent the spread of the virus. A growing body of the literature suggests that video-conferencing is poised to be a core practice within community correctional settings. However, little is known about the best practice strategies for incorporating videoconferencing into routine supervision. We address this gap by interviewing and conducting focus groups with a sample of community correction officers from the US (N = 16). We identified the presence of the law enforcement—social work dichotomy in remote settings, reflected in challenges and opportunities when holding clients accountable and establishing client–officer relationships. Our findings show that officers relying on evidence-based practices (EBPs) were able to use videoconferencing tools to overcome remote challenges. We suggest that establishing in-person relationships, adapting EBP, and taking care of logistics are critical steps to strengthen remote accountability and client–officer relationships. We conclude by discussing future research areas. © The Author(s) 2023.

ABSTRACT

Hsp90 is a molecular chaperone responsible for regulating proteostasis under physiological and pathological conditions. Its central role in a range of diseases and potential as a drug target has focused efforts to understand its mechanisms and biological functions and to identify modulators that may form the basis for therapies. The 10th international conference on the Hsp90 chaperone machine was held in Switzerland in October 2022. The meeting was organized by Didier Picard (Geneva, Switzerland) and Johannes Buchner (Garching, Germany) with an advisory committee of Olivier Genest, Mehdi Mollapour, Ritwick Sawarkar, and Patricija van Oosten-Hawle. This was a much anticipated first in-person meeting of the Hsp90 community since 2018 after the COVID-19 pandemic led to the postponement of the 2020 meeting. The conference remained true to the tradition of sharing novel data ahead of publication, providing unparalleled depth of insight for both experts and newcomers to the field.

ABSTRACT

During the COVID-19 pandemic, it became increasingly important to understand how licensed professional counselors used telemental health applications (apps) to establish therapeutic relationships in rural areas. In the past decade, technology has undergone significant changes in its purpose and design. During the COVID-19 pandemic, telemental health was a tool that provided access to mental health services by developing and sharing innovative and effective treatments. The literature suggested that telemental health apps are effective for providing counseling services to clients living in rural areas. Therefore, this technology provided added support to individuals who faced treatment barriers. In this generic qualitative study, data were collected and analyzed regarding the perceptions of therapeutic relationship development among licensed professional counselors using telemental health apps in rural areas during the COVID-19 pandemic. The data collected from the semi-structured interview were analyzed using inductive analysis, through which six themes emerged: (a) relational components of therapy, b) methods and approaches used to guide sessions, (c) client concerns about ethical and privacy issues, (d) barriers to engaging clients in the sessions, (e) the value of videoconferencing platforms to help connect with clients, and (f) evolving new roles and responsibilities. The themes that emerged helped answer the research question: "How have professional counselors used telemental health apps in rural areas to develop the therapeutic relationship during COVID-19?" Counselors may better understand, empathize, support, engage, connect, and develop therapeutic relationships with clients when utilizing these applications. In future research, it would be worthwhile to examine clients' viewpoints, since telemental health applications are designed with clients in mind. Also, associate-level professionals used telemental health to work with clients, and this experience may be useful to gain a perspective from counselors in training. Finally, when it comes to participation recruitment, it may be beneficial to reach out to various social networks, Listservs, and other professional organizations. Counselors may report different experiences regarding their engagement with clients. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved)

ABSTRACT

Purpose: The aim of the present study is to explore the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the first stage of external audit, namely, on the auditors' client acceptance and continuance decisions (CACDs). Design/methodology/approach: Survey data was collected on the basis of a structured questionnaire, which was answered by 21.02% of the Greek certified auditors/accountants. Parametric hypothesis testing and regression analysis were used in data analysis. Findings: The results of the survey showed that the COVID-19 pandemic had a different impact on the client acceptance decision-making (CAD) process and the client continuance decision-making (CCD) process. The CAD process appears to have been affected in a mostly negative way, and to a greater extent than is the case with the CCD process. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the CACD process appears to be mainly related to the difficulty arising in auditor–client communication. Additionally, as far as the CAD process is concerned, the COVID-19 pandemic appears to have had a negative impact on the audit fees, while, when it comes to the CCD process, the pandemic has had a positive impact with regard to clientele expansion. Finally, survey findings showed that the COVID-19 pandemic affected in a different way Big6 and non-Big6 auditors. Originality/value: The present study aspires to fill significant gaps identified in relevant literature with regard to auditors' work in correlation with the COVID-19 pandemic. More specifically, to the best of the author's knowledge, it is the first study exploring the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the first stage of external audit. Moreover, the study is based on primary data collected in real time, under the actual conditions of emergency related to the health crisis. Last but not least, the findings of the present study could be of value to professionals and regulative authorities in case of similar future emergencies or potential crisis situations. © 2023, Emerald Publishing Limited.

ABSTRACT

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a widely discussed topic in healthcare as it affects patients of all genders and ages who partake in sexual activity. The most significant concern it poses to those at risk is HPV-related cancer. Fortunately, a vaccination exists that targets specific strains associated with these types of cancers. Despite evidence-based research supporting the vaccination's efficacy and safety, lack of awareness and misinformation diminish the receipt of the vaccine and drive the lack of protection. Thus, educational interventions directed at parents and caregivers, which aims to improve their understanding of HPV and the vaccination's benefits, is key to increasing vaccination rates. This project aims to answer the PICOT question: Does HPV education given to parents and caregivers of children and adolescents between the ages of 9 and 17 result in higher HPV vaccination intent and knowledge? Evidence-based articles that use education to improve vaccination rates, intent, or knowledge using different forms of education and different target populations were located. Overall, research supports education to promote HPV-awareness and increasing vaccination uptake to decrease HPV-related cancers. The use of technology to increase knowledge is essential today as the coronavirus pandemic has driven our nation to accomplish social distancing measures while still performing everyday activities. To increase HPV knowledge and vaccination intent through a technology-based educational intervention, Lewin's Change Theory and the Iowa Model were used to help guide the project using a step-by-step process. For this DNP project, a video on HPV education was delivered and change in HPV knowledge and vaccination intent was measured through Qualtrics XM surveys, which were accessible through a link provided on social media and pediatrician offices. Results revealed that there was no statistical significance amongst demographics, including gender, age, ethnicity, education, and marital status, and a change in overall HPV iv knowledge. However, when analyzing vaccination intent pre-and post-survey, statistical significance (p = 0) was evident as 14/36 (38.89%) of the participants changed whether they intended to vaccinate their child or adolescent from "no" to "yes" after receiving the educational intervention. The project facilitator also found statistical significance (p < 0.001) amongst HPV Knowledge Survey scores from the pre- and post-survey answers as there was a mean increase of -1.22, with a 95% confidence interval ranging from -1.76 to -0.69). Overall, the project addresses the problem of the lack of HPV-related knowledge and vaccination intent amongst caregivers of adolescents and children and furthermore, has the capability of increasing HPV vaccination rates. Nevertheless, limitations and recommendations enhancing implementation and driving sustainability to improve patient outcomes in the future are addressed further. ABSTRACT

Shifts in the healthcare environment, particularly the onset of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, have resulted in the cancelation of most Level I experiential learning opportunities for occupational therapy students limiting required hands-on learning experiences and impacting the required academic content for graduation for occupational therapy students. The decline in Level I fieldwork placements occurred before COVID-19 because of changes to legislative and licensure regulations, increased demand, and reimbursement criteria (Harvison, 2020). The decline in Level I fieldwork sites demands that the profession explore strategies to provide innovative experiential learning opportunities to address the occupational therapy educational needs set by the 2018 Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) Standards (American Occupational Therapy Association [AOTA], 2019). This program evaluation aimed to assess Digital Clinical Experiences (DCE) effectiveness as an alternative to traditional Level I fieldwork at a private mid-Atlantic health sciences college. The study determined the efficacy of the DCE product by comparing the outcomes reflected in students' performance on the Level I Fieldwork Competency Evaluation for OT and OTA Students. Scores of students who participated in Level I fieldwork using DCE were compared to scores of students who participated in traditional Level I fieldwork. The comparison of scores indicated that there is no significant difference. The context, input, process, and product (CIPP) model guided this evaluation. The product evaluation component addressed the purpose of this program evaluation (Stufflebeam & Zhang, 2017;Young Lee et al., 2019). The product evaluation component measured and analyzed the findings during and after the learning experience (Young Lee et al., 2019). Additionally, the product evaluation assessed the overall efficacy of the DCE product (Young Lee et al., 2019) and presented outcomes from multiple viewpoints: the individual, the cohort, and the aggregate members (Stufflebeam & Zhang, 2017). Thirty-two students participated in this program evaluation. Quantitative data included DCE student index performance scores in four areas of interest: documentation, communication skills, performance skills, and clinical reasoning. Quantitative data obtained from the Level I Fieldwork Competency Evaluation for OT and OTA Students and the Simulation Effectiveness Tool- Modified (SET-M) support the use of the DCE product for Level I fieldwork. Qualitative data using thematic analysis and axial coding determined themes from reflective journals that support the overall findings and indicate that students found the DCE learning experience engaging, meaningful, and a positive learning experience. Results from the Level I Fieldwork Competency Evaluation for OT and OTA Students suggest comparative learning outcomes where performance scores showed no significant differences compared to scores from students who participated in traditional Level I fieldwork experiences. The student's qualitative feedback supported this program evaluation's positive and negative findings. The limitations of the evaluated DCE program include only one area of practice, the use of one cohort of students for data collection, the target population (nursing students) of the DCE product, and the educators' time commitment. The results of this program evaluation inform educators of the effectiveness of the DCE product for Level I fieldwork and increase access to Level I fieldwork learning experiences when access is limited. These program evaluation outcomes were presented through multiple formats to include presentations to occupational therapy educators, presentations to Shadow Health, the publication of the findings in peer-reviewed occupational therapy journals, and dynamic discussions on the AOTA CommunOT discussion pages. ABSTRACT

During times of crises, humanistic-existential experiences can become extreme in terms of how individuals cope with negative emotions. Research during the year 2020 has shown that on the one hand, women are more challenged on different levels than men with regard to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. On the other hand, women leaders have shown high-quality leadership to guide nations through the crisis. This study sought to explore the humanistic-existential experiences of women through the terror management theory and from a qualitative perspective. It used a qualitative research paradigm with a hermeneutical research approach and purposeful and snowball sampling. The sample consisted of 16 women aged between 22 and 81 years and of 10 different nationalities who encountered COVID-19 themselves or experienced it in their family, colleagues, or friends. Data were collected from qualitative questionnaires/written interviews and analyzed through content analysis. Data are reported in a qualitative reporting style;quality criteria are presented and limitations discussed. Ethical considerations are addressed. Findings show that women are impacted by negative emotions, in particular anxiety and fear, which they cope with in different ways and which contribute to their meaning making. Conclusions and recommendations for future research and psychological practice are given. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2022 APA, all rights reserved)
